Sample application "Server protection"
Overheating is the enemy of any server. The temperature sensor USB-Temp
could be used as an effective and inexpensive control system to
detect overheating conditions.
There are several useful positions the USB-Temp could be located.
Inside the server the sensor may be fixed in the upper part of the
housing near the air outlet using a binder (Example).
For controlling the disk temperature a place at the disk surface
should be best.
Outside the server the air stream of the air condition is a good
sensor position to ensure that the cooling is working. Also the
PC fan output is a useful place.
New: Network enabled- display and alarm on different PC.
This enables the system administrator or the factory security to
supervise the temperature at dedicated places and to react early
when problems arises.
The USB-Temp sensors are just plugged in the PC.
No driver installation is neccessary which keeps the
system integrity.
The software ClewareControl could now be configured
to activate actions at dedicated temperatures.
The possible actions include sending email or
turning an USB-Switch on or off.
The dialogs for defining these actions are shown on the right side.
Other possible actions are playing a sound or writing an event
into the event log.
The execution of any program available on the PC is also
possible. The current temperature could could be supplied as an argument.
Emergency situations could be made widely visible by
turning on an alarm light using the USB-Switch.
Ideal for this purpuse are a kind of police lights.
Therefore such lights could be ordered from Cleware. |
